About us

Chelwood was founded in October 1997, when two Baptist Churches agreed to join together. These were Davenport Baptist Church and Larkhill Baptist Church.
The Church is part of the Baptist Union of Great Britain – the largest fellowship of Baptist Churches in Great Britain.
We are situated at the heart of the Larkhill estate and our vision is to be a worshipping community that is relevant and active in the community.
Chelwood Cafe
In 2006 the church bought a run-down sub post-office on the estate and converted it into a community cafe with church office and meeting room upstairs. The cafe was staffed by volunteers and served good, nutricious meals at affordable prices. Update October 2011 The Cafe is in the process of changing hands- The legacy lives on though and it is hoped the community cafe will remain open for many years to come- The church will continue to support the new venture and intends maintain close links with the new owners.
Our Vision
Our Vision is to place Church and therefore Gods Love in the heart of the Community.
How We Plan To Meet That
Vision
1. Announcing The Good News of Jesus Christ
The purpose of announcing the good news of Jesus Christ is
to bring people to faith in Jesus and to add them to the church,
where their faith can be nurtured and where they can mature in the
Christian life.
2. Working With God In The Neighbourhood
In obedience to the command to ‘love your neighbour as
yourself,’ CBC aim to share the love of God in the locality in a
practical way. We seek to make a difference in our local community.
The Church will support initiatives to enhance the quality of
life of people in the local community – through both Christian and
appropriate secular ‘agencies.’
The Church will, where
appropriate, initiate community development activities to bring
about improvements in the area, to meet identified needs.
3.
Experiencing God For Ourselves
We are committed to meeting
together regularly, for it is through fellowship that we learn and
mature. CBC will provide Sunday services that enable people to grow
in Christ through:
· Biblical Based Preaching &
Teaching
· Inspired Worship
· An openness to the Holy
Spirit
· Opportunities for service
Beyond the Sunday
Services, we will encourage growth through fellowship, teaching and
through service.
Prayer is foundational in the Christian
life and will play a large part in the life of the church. We will
encourage people to meet together to pray . We will set aside time
in the church’s diary for prayer.
Caring for one another and
loving one another will be modelled, taught and practised. We will
have systems in place to ensure that existing participants are
overseen and cared for.
We will ensure that new attendees and visitors are acknowledged, made welcome and given space to consider their place within the life of the church.
